Kumbhalgarh is known for the historic fort built by Maharana Kumbha in the 15th century. It is fortified by a 36 Km long wall which is assumed to be the longest on earth after the ‘Great wall of China’. It is located at a strategic position in the Aravali hills near border of Mewar & Marwar. Kumbhalgarh is also associated with Maharana Pratap as it is him birth place.
The area around the fort is a part of the Kumbhalgarh wildlife sanctuary which is one of the large sanctuaries of Rajasthan. Spreading over an area of more than 600 Kms. the sanctuary is a fascinating mix of the splendors of history and natural wonder. The sanctuary provides excellent landscapes, a variety of flora & fauna, beautiful hills.
It is home to some rare animals like Wolf, Leopard, Sloth bear, Four horned antelope and birds like Aravali , Red spur fowl, Green mania. There are excellent trekking opportunities and jeep-able safari routes in it.
